10 Years Ago - November 2005

It's been a whole decade since November 2005 (we can't believe it either!), and memories have started to fade. We can't be having that, so we've compiled a roundup of all the best news from that month. From world events to celebrity gossip, we've got everything you need to know!
The month began with discovery, as scientists spotted two undiscovered moons in orbit around Pluto and identified a radio source in the centre of the Milky Way galaxy as a supermassive black hole. Back on Earth, things weren't going so smoothly, with 1st November marking a fifth consecutive night of rioting in Paris. A state of emergency was declared on the 8th and extended through the month, resulting in three deaths and 3,000 arrests. Perhaps this kind of civil disobedience wasn't surprising, as November was also the 400th anniversary of Guy Fawkes' attempt to blow up the English parliament and King James I.

Entertainment saw the arrival of two behemoths, with the launch of the games console Xbox 360 in North America and the first airing of the controversial cartoon comedy 'The Boondocks'. It was just as well, since the world of sport suffered blow after blow, with the televised mid-race death of champion horse Best Mate and the loss of footballing icon George Best.

A different kind of tragedy struck the celebrity world, with November 2005 seeing the divorces of many celeb couples. Wrestler 'Edge' completed his second divorce, this time from Lisa Ortiz who he had married in only October of the previous year. Actor Joseph D. Reitman split from wife Shannon Elizabeth, prompting speculation not so much over the reasons for the split, but over how the shaggy thespian was managing to bag babe after babe in the first place. Spanish singer-song writer Alejandro Sanz broke it off with wife Jaidy Michel, but it didn't kill his talent as he went on to win 15 Latin Grammy Awards and three Grammy Awards.

It wasn't all doom and gloom, with November 2005 also seeing its fair share of celeb marriages. Disney actor Sean Murray tied the knot with Carrie James, while KISS member Paul Stanley married longtime girlfriend Erin Sutton. The biggest news was pop diva Christina Aguilera's marriage to Jordan Bratman, causing thousands of men to burst into tears that lasted until 2011 when the pair eventually divorced.

That was November 2005, and what a year it was! Join us next month for another jump back.
