Thistle kilt buckle (bu78)

Pewter with embossed design and raised thistle. This buckle has a two hinged bars for attachment and a wide rigid hook.
Thistle of Scotland (Cluaran of Alba). The thistle became the national emblem of Scotland after the Battle of Largs in 1263 AD. A Norse attack force decided on a stealthy night assault. However, their leader trod on a thistle and his yell alerted the Scots who saw them off, thus saving Scotland.
